Set an Election End Date
How To: Set End Date
Overview
Administrators can set an end date and time for an election so voting automatically closes at a specified moment. This removes the need for manual intervention and ensures elections end consistently and on schedule.
This guide explains how to set or update the end date for an election.
When You Would Use This
Setting an end date is useful when:
- Elections must close at a specific time
- Voting is tied to meetings or announcements
- Deadlines need to be enforced automatically
- Administrators want voting to stop without manual action
UrVote currently supports configurable end dates only. Elections begin once published.
Step-by-Step: Setting an End Date
- Open your election from the Elections dashboard.
- Enter the election builder/editor.
- Select Set End Date.
- Choose the date and time when voting should end.
- Confirm or save your selection.
Once set, voting will automatically close at the chosen time.
What Happens When the End Date Is Reached?
When the scheduled end time arrives:
- Voting automatically stops.
- No additional ballots can be submitted.
- Results remain available for viewing and sharing.
- Administrators can finalize or archive the election.
No manual closing action is required.
Tips & Best Practices
- Set the end date before sending invitations when possible.
- Allow enough time for all members to participate.
- Consider time zone differences for distributed organizations.
- Inform members of the voting deadline.
Common Questions
Can the end date be changed later? Yes. Administrators can update the end date while the election is active.
Can voting reopen after closing? Voting does not automatically reopen once the end time passes. Administrators would need to manage reopening manually if allowed by their election rules.
Do I need to manually end the election? No. Voting automatically closes once the end date is reached.
